Show f . C. R. Lomax Will Head Scoi;t Jam boree Chairman Floyd Loveridge, Chief Scout Executive of the Utah National Parks Council announced this week that Mr. C.R. Lomax Lo-max of Nephi, Utah has been named Council Jamboree Chairman for the 1973 National Scout Jamboree. Mr. Lomax is a life long Scouter having served at all levels le-vels including leadership positions at five national jamborees. Mr. Lomax stated that for the first time in the history of the Boy Scouts of America, the National Scout Jamboree will be held in two locations to satisfy the popular demand de-mand for a jamboree site within reach of major population centers. The two sites selected are; Jamboree-West, August 1-7, 1973, at Farragut State Park near Coeur d'alene, Idaho, where the XII World Jamboree was held in 1967 and the 7th National Jamboree in 1969. Jamboree-East, August 3-9, 1973, will bo held at Moraine State Park north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. To a scout, said Mr. Lomax; this national encampment en-campment is unquestionably unquestion-ably a unique and unequalled un-equalled opportunity. It provides experiences in travel, learning, and human hu-man understanding that are seldom available to youth in their formative years. Today there are thousands of adults who still consider their jamboree jam-boree experience a high point in their lives. The theme of the 1973 Jamboree is Growing Together and was recommended re-commended by the national na-tional youth advisory panel pa-nel of young men ages 14 to 16. The theme was selected because it can be taken to mean growing in physical strength and skill, in moral character and maturity, in mental ability and knowledge, in leadership, in brotherhood brother-hood and understanding and in concern for the environment. At present there are more than 250 Scouts from the Utah National Parks Council register- i ed for the jamboree. Applications will be accepted ac-cepted until. each of the 35,000 spaces are filled at both jamborees. Reports Re-ports from jaboree headquarters head-quarters show they are now 60 filled. According to Mr. Lomax Lo-max the council is offering of-fering 3 plans whereby Souts and troops may attend the jamboree. One, Scouts will go with their own chartered troop. Under this plan the troop will take care of all equipment, transportation, trans-portation, arrangements and leadership. Plan two, a deluxe trip by air to Seattle, Washington, ferry fer-ry trip to Victoria, B.C., Bremerton, Washington, air transportation to Spokane, bus from Spokane Spo-kane to the Jamboree and return home by air. Plan three, an economy econ-omy chartered bus trip from Provo directly to the jamboree and return. Under plans two and three, the council will take care of equipment, transportation, arrangements arrange-ments and leadership. Plans two and three will be offered for Jamboree-West Jamboree-West only. Scouts and troops desiring to attend the 1973 jamboree or additional information should contact the Provo Scout office or their district executive. |
