Show Spending Plan Analyzed... We don't know whether or not it will make any difference in attendance on Dec. 11, but alterations made in this year's budget by Grand County Commissioners Com-missioners should get the attention of a good number of residents of the community. The Commissioners, who have been assisted by incumbents who will take office on Jan. 1, have spent two weeks in review of the upcoming budget, with a public hearing on the proposed spending spend-ing plan scheduled for Dec. 11 at 10 a.m. A complete analysis of the proposed budget, as formally adopted in its preliminary form Monday of this week, appears on Page 1 of this issue. It shows planned expenditures by section, and compares those figures with the ones in the current budget. In some cases, large reductions have been noted. In others, tremendously increased spending is planned. Although we feel that the proposed budget is a good one a budget with ample funding for maintenance mainten-ance of necessary services plus planned expenditures expendi-tures for progressive improvements it can only be improved by close public scrutiny and suggestions from the general public. That's what public hearings are all about. We urge residents to study the proposal. Further, we would hope that residents take the time necessary to attend the Dec. 11 hearing, to make suggestions, voice objections or even to voice their approval. No government agency should be asked to operate in a vacuum least of all those units closest to the taxpaying public. |
