Cozzens as Chairman of Seoutmgs' 'Keep America Beautiful Day' activities in the Council's Grand District. Dis-trict. The activities are being be-ing planned for June 5 in a major attack on litter. The efforts in the Utah National Parks Councd will be part of a massive, 1-day cleanup project sponsored spon-sored by the Boy Scouts and Keep America Beautiful, Beauti-ful, Inc., in all 50 States. Nationally, more than million Scouts and. adult leaders will tackle the litter lit-ter problem along streets, highways, streams and in parks, recreation and other oth-er areas. Loveridge said more than 26,000 Scouts in the Council Coun-cil will be engaged in the Cleanup work highlighting the need for litter pickup, litter prevention, and recycling recy-cling of used material. The (Titan Natitonal Parks, Council contains 36 Dist-cicts Dist-cicts and is the 30th largest larg-est Council in boy membership member-ship of over 500 Councils in America. "The Scouts and others who- join with them in this important, educational effort", ef-fort", said Loveridge, "will pile up huge amounts of the litter in a central place to focus attention en the need for a cleaner environment en-vironment and the need for every one to get into th-j act." "Another object in Scouting 'Keep America beautiful Day' is to get across the story of recycl ing as a partial answer to the solid waste problem. We hope to recycle as much of the collected trash as possible aluminum,'" glass, steel, paper, and other materials." "Recycling solves two problems at one time. First lit gets rid of this trash, and second, it reduces the strain on natural resources resourc-es needed to make new products. With increased demands on raw materials from a burgeoning population popula-tion and with solid wastes taxing our disposal capabilities, capa-bilities, we need to tum more and more to recycling recycl-ing techniques." Scouting 'Keep America Beautiful Day' is a highlight high-light in the Boy Scouts' Project S.O.A.R., the short term for Save Our American Ameri-can Resources. Throughout the year , the project will be carrying out action programs pro-grams designed to improve the environment and create concern for betterment. Some of these activities activi-ties involve air and water pollution, litter prevention, and waste disposal. |
