The day is going to kooeofthefunnest things to brxn in a long time. he idea for the water Cnivil is one that all the fciiiy can enjoy, and even if ios don't join in the river Pt:ts. the day will be full of fct. Everything from water fjes on Main Street to a ferasrk display of fireworks rl be featured. This is the first year for the Ti;er Carnival, and it is kred that the event is well I ' supported. If that happens, it will become an annual event, officials said. There will be prizes for each event of the day for losers as well as winners in some events. Prizes for the "Anything That Can Float" race will be awarded to the most unusual, most problems, most comical and not necessarily the first across the finish line. This event is limited only to the imagination of the entrants as to what can and what cannot float. Concessions will be set up at Lions Park to provide refreshments refresh-ments for the spectators and participants. Hot Dogs and cold drinks will be served. Safety will be encouraged on all river events. Lifeguards will be stationed along the j'wer. and jet boats w ill be on hand for emergencies. These will be the only motorized boats allowed on the calm stretch of the river upstream from the Moab highway bridge. The big w ater fight scheduled schedul-ed between the Blanding and Moab Fire Departments fell through at the last minute, so Moab's Volunteer Firemen are going to divide up into teams, and put on a big contest and show of skill themselves. This big event is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the City Park. The Hang Gliding event which is scheduled w ill depend on Mother Nature. and which w ay the w ind is blowing, and if the weather cooperates, this should be an exciting event. The long canoe and kayak races will start just below Moose Park and finish at the old bridge abutment across from Lions Park. This is also the route to be run by those involved in the inner-tube race, except it will be shortened somewhat, with the starting point only a mile or two upstream from Moab. The boxing glove water fight will take place in front of Lions Park, and the fight getting top billing at this point is one scheduled between Connie Caouetie and Father Sandy Hampton. The endurance race will go downstream about 500 yards, then turn around and come part way back. This will be the toughest race of the day. Rock rappelling events will be put on by some local 1 Moabites and they will rappell ' from the rocks just above the boat launch area. Demonstrations Demonstra-tions will take place three or four times during the day. Tugs of War are going to be . held on the sand bar just in ; front of Lions Park. This will be staged a number of times during the day. All entries must weasr life jackets. No one under the age of 10 years will be allowed to enter the river events; children 9 - and under will have events at the Moab Swim Center in the morning. Prizes for all winners in the childrens' events will be given, and all prizes for the river events will be donated by the local merchants.
