Taylor, Moab livestock man; Paul Rattle, secretary of the Utah Mining Association and Mitch Williams, local tourguide.- ' Testimony offered, for the most part, protested the addition ad-dition of the vast amount of acreage to Arches without with-out prior notice or hearings, and fasted that wherever possible, the boundaries Be adjusted downward. A few witnesses . asked .that -the Congress rescind President Johnson's order, although many .witnesses' urged that .boundary adjustments adjust-ments be made to the new monument,- rather than- going go-ing back to the old boundary lines. San Juan School District presented a formal resolution, resolu-tion, as did the San Juan County Commission, protesting pro-testing the withdrawal of any additional public lands for park use, saying that the high percentage of federal fed-eral lands in Southeastern Utah placed added burdens Of taxation on private property pro-perty owners, and public lands wherever possible, should remain open for multiple mul-tiple use. Concluding witness, Mitch Williams, urged that "all efforts ef-forts be made to change ths status of Arches from Monument Mon-ument to Park, , and asked that local residents attempt to cooperate in coming up with the best solution. |
