Show Green River News Notes FIRE DEPT. CALLED The Given River Fire De-pnr:m.'.:iit De-pnr:m.'.:iit was called out twice .SuntJ.-iy, I''eb. 22, for two different dif-ferent fires. A railroad flat car was ignited ig-nited by a hot box, 13 miles west of Creen River at Desert. Des-ert. The car was loaded witn 2 by lr.'s. The fire department was .summoned at 6 : 3 a.m. and was at (he scene all day. The Denver & Rio Grande Wi.'itern Railroad insurance C(-ir:irty gave them any lumber lum-ber that could be salvaged, in exchange for cleaning up the area. When the "moping up" operations op-erations were completed and the firemen were driving back to town, the siren blew again. This time it was the old ice house on the railroad spur west of the depot. It was completely destroyed, due to ,1'fuldenng sawdust that kept flaring up. Thio building was purchas ed some time ago by Lee Howland and had been used for storage by the Blackline OJ Company. It contained only a few things of little value. There are several speculations, but the actual cause of the fire is not known. Fire Chief, Harmond Weber, Web-er, extends his appreciation to his hard working crew for there participation. |
