Show County Approves Mew Budget Following Hearing Here Monday Conducting a public hearing hear-ing with regards ,to the proposed pro-posed 1970 budget was the Grand County Commission Tuesday. About 15 interested persons per-sons appeared to hear the reading of the budget for next year. There was, however, how-ever, only one protest to any additions that were made. This protest was against the increase in room rates at the Allen Memorial Hospital. The raise will bring the rents to $30 for a semi-private room and $35 for a private room. The protest, it was stated, was the tourist who leaves very hard for the elderly to pay the new fees. Hospital Hos-pital Administrator J. Kay Hawks stated that the hospital hos-pital did not have particular particul-ar problems in collecting bills from the older people. He stated, however, that it was the toruist who leaves town and the deadbeats who were causing the financial difficulties at the hospital. After a considerable discussion, discus-sion, the new plans were adopted. There were questions raised concerning the $20, CCO addition to the budget for Grand County prom-' tion but after an explanation explana-tion of the expenditure was made, no bjections wee raised. There was some discussion discus-sion concerning the budget bud-get for the county agent. The main problem was that those present seemed to think he was not doing a great deal for agriculture agricul-ture in the community. They were told that he was available once per momh and that anyone wishing his services should leave his name with the county clerk. Ray Branscom proposed a raise in the budget for the mosquito abatement program. pro-gram. He pointed out that recently, the program has not been succeeding. The Commissioners then stated that funds were not the problem. For the past several sev-eral years there has been a surplus in the fund at the end of the year. The problem, prob-lem, they continued, was due pilot troubles. They were unable to get a plane1, started on the spraying at the right time and were therefore ineffective. This year Ted Tibbetts has been hired to decide when to spray. He will study the mosquito larvae and tell the commissioners when the spray would be most effective. effect-ive. The general fund budget was finally passed with Commissioner Fred Bey-eler Bey-eler objecting. In concluding the meeting, there was a brief discussion of the hospital budget itself. No objections were raised from the audience and the budget bud-get was passed unanamous-ly unanamous-ly by the Commissioners. |
