Show Annual Report Issued By Local Hiway Pcfro! Tlie annual report of the L'lnh Highway Patrol for this district was reltfnst'cr this week by Sgt. Ralpn Benson. The district has soven officers of-ficers including Sgt. Benson. Ben-son. Bruce Black and Scott Skidmore of Moab: Kay Jewkes and Lyle Evans in Green River; Robert Low in Monticrllo and Claude Lacy of Blanding. According to the report, the seven officers traveled a total of 244.599 miles in 195S. They put in a total of 1G.739 hours, 8S1 of which wore overtime hours. Tlie cost of vehicle maintenance main-tenance was S6.3G5.63 which included the cost of gas, oil and repairs, as well as the repair of one Highway Patrol Pa-trol vehicle which was involved in-volved in a minor accident in the year. A total of 2.905 arrests " wera made by the officers in 198 which compares V hit" 74 "in 1967. 1.2S6 warrants war-rants were issued this past year. 192 accidents were investigated inves-tigated in 1968 as compared to the same number in 1967. In 1968 the accidents involved involv-ed 61 personal injuries and seven fatalities. This is a decrease of fatalities over 19ti7 which left nine persons dead on the highways in this district. Tlie fatalities in this district dis-trict included four in San Juan county, three in Grand county and one in the district's dis-trict's portion of Emery county. One of the fatalities fatalit-ies in San Juan county was the result of a cow-car collision. 33 stolen autos were apprehended ap-prehended in the district this past year as compared with 31 in 1967. 50 subjects were picked up by other departments de-partments such as tlie U. S. Marshal, military authorities authorit-ies and state agencies. Stolen property recovered was estimated at ?5S.S49, which includes the 33 stolen cars plus other goods. Bail forfeitures amounted to $10.42159 and fines amounted am-ounted to $48,323 . 95 vehicles were impounded for improper impro-per registration and abandonment. aban-donment. There were 175 drunk drivers dri-vers picked up in 196S as compared to 131 in 1967. Most of those analyzed as drunk were tested by the breathalyzer but some were tested by blood and urine procedures. The Highway Patrol officers offi-cers for this district also picked up 21 felonies other than in connection with a vehicle. 37 persons wer3 picked up with loaded firearms fire-arms in their vehicle. These were mostly hand guns found in possession of transients. 99 runaways were picked up and released to parents or to juvenile authorities. 32 AWGL individuals were returned re-turned to military authorities. authorit-ies. 36 individuals were picked up for illegal possession of liquor. Tlie number of hours the Highway Patrol officers of this distrcit spent in assisting assist-ing the public was reported as 288 la.
