Show beginning of a solid plan The first communi'ty look at tihe nearly completed complet-ed Master Plan for Moab and Grand County last Friday Fri-day night confirmed our long-held belief that this was a much-needed thing that was considerably overdue, over-due, particularly in the area outside Moab City limits. Although some of the long-range goals might have seemed a little idealistic and out of reach, it should be remembered that without goals of this na-1 na-1 ture to shoot for, the ' intermediate steps have little meaning. It is important that guidelines be established to allow development in an orderly manner, so that some misguided step on the intermediate level migfht not rule out forever the possibility of reaching a particular partic-ular goal. One feature we hoped might be considered but was not, we feel should be considered for addition to the plan at some future date. That is a highway bridge across the Colorado River somewhere in the vicinity of the junction of that river and Mill Creek. That bridge, if constructed, would connect Cnne Creek Boulevard with the Potash Road; would cut mileage and time to the potash facility tremendously; would give the community quicker access to the Dead Horse Point area; and would serve as the only logical truck bypass we have yet heard discussed. Aside from this omission, we liked the Plan. It is to be hoped ihat when it is put into, effect sometime some-time tihis Spring following- a.pubfic hearing; that officials of-ficials of Moab City and Grand County will give it the necessary backing over the year it will need to produce the results it predicts. A plan is only as good as the method in which ,' it 13 followed. It should be improved upon where prac tical; but not undermined by lax enforcement. |
