Show People disabled as children now get social security Over 382,000 adults who were disabled in childhood are getting social security payments, pay-ments, according to John Wainwright, social security district manager in Grand Junction, Colorado. Monthly benefits are paid to disabled adult sons and daughters of workers getting social security retirement or disabilities--and of deceased workers who worked long enough under social security. "The benefits are paid to people whose disability began before age 22," Wainwright said. They get about $53 million a month in social security payments, pay-ments, he said.
