Show San Juan State Park Visitation Continues Climb The visitation to San Juan County park areas seems to continue to increase as the summer moves along, reports this week indicate. Newspaper Rock State Historical His-torical Monument experienced an increase of 642 visits over last month's 3.672 visits. The year to date totals show better than a two hundred per cent increase for the year. Goosenecks State Reserve shows an increase for the month of July this year as compared to July 197-1 of 66 per cent from 1625 visits in 19"-) te 2698 this year. The total visitation to date this year shows a 41 per cent increase over the same period of time in 1974. The recreational use on the San Juan River, according to Ranger Gordon W. Topham, seems to have remained fairly active through July, though the riv er has dropped to a flow of between 4 and 5 thousand feet per second, w hich is still apparently high for this time of year. In July. Kent D. Tibbetts of Blanding took over his duties as a Board Member of the Utah State Board of Parks and Recreation, which gives this section of Utah a continued voice in Division policy and development. Mr. Tibbetts replaced E. J. Claus of Moab. The recreational vehicle usage in the low er lands of the county seems to have subsided with the hotter temperatures and seems to be more confined to the mountain areas. |
