Show Judge Levies Fines Plus Probation in Liquor Cases Seventh Judicial District Court convened last Wednesday Wednes-day for its regular law and motion day. A heavy docket of criminal and civil cases were on the adgenda f )r Judge Edward Sheya. Five people appeared on charges of .illegal sale of alcohol al-cohol in the arrests made by the Utah State Liquor Commission Com-mission late in September. Of these five, one case was dismissed, one was set for - trial, -and the other three ' plead ' guilty and were sentenced.- Jerry Day, Fred Johnson, and Irum Oliver Brannon al! plead guilty . and . were sentenced sent-enced to a fine of $300 and 60 days in Grand County Jail. Upon motion of the District and County attorneys, since this was. the first offense for all the defendents, the court placed them on probation for two years and suspended the jail sentence for said period upon the condition that the defendants obey all Federal, State and local laws and ordinances. If any one . of these men violate any of these laws during the probationary proba-tionary period, he will be required re-quired to serve the jail sentence. sen-tence. - Maxine Day had her case dismissed whcn.it was made to appear to the court by the District Attorney that Mis. Day was acting for her husband, hus-band, Jerry in the sale of alcohol al-cohol with which she had been charged. Since her husband hus-band had plead guilty earlier earl-ier it was recommended to the court that the charges be dismissed. The court so ordered this dismissal. Arthur Ray Knight plead not guilty to the charge of illegal sale of alcohol and his trial was set for the opening term of court in January since his attorney, Luke Pap- . pas, will not be available before be-fore that time. . Judge Sheya set a date of December 4, for the jury trial of Clark Burnell Ds Long who is charged with burglary in a case continued from last June. The case of John David Campbell, who is charged with automobile homicide in the death of Mr. and Mrs. James Tibbetts last fall, was arraigned and a jury trial date set for January 8. Jack W. Ring appeared on a charge of burglary and trial was set for December 18, before a jury. A trial of November 2C, was set in the civil case of Holter vs Richard L. Smith, Two adoptions were granted grant-ed by Judge Sheya and several sev-eral civil matters were either eith-er settled or dismissed to ffnish a very busy court schedule. |
