The ! Senator-elect is traveling in : Utah to get feedback from the citizens on his role as their U. 1 5 Senator in Washington, ! D.C j gy Friday evening, Mr. ' Hatch had visited twenty-four i cjties and had spoken to more I than thirty-five adult groups iand high school studentbod- jes. Mr. Hatch was gratified at the interest in his effort to ! become better informed about j the concerns of his constitu-i constitu-i ents. I All over southern Utah, i Hatch was questioned about inflation, energy development, the poor price of beef, , geothermal energy, and the .proposed alunite plant in Beaver, constituent services defense problems, and other varied citizen problems. Mr. Hatch threw out his prepared text at most of his appearances and asked for questions and comments about the concerns of the audiences. Hatch also said that he will be looking at the promises of other politicians in Utah and across the nation with an effort to hold these people accountable, account-able, if necessary, from the floor of the U.S. Senate. And, Hatch said, "this includes President-elect Jimmy Carter." Car-ter." This week's tour was the first of a series of tours planned by the Senator-elect throughout the state to allow the people of Utah to tell him what some of their individual and local problems are. "I want to represent all the people of Utah in the United States Senate," said Hatch. "Every community that we have visited has welcomed us and the leaders and the citizens have been willing to candidly discuss some of their problems and have suggested meaningful solutions in many cases. I am grateful for their kind assistance in helping me to understand their problems. |
