Show Big Funds Are Coming For Local Road Work ''How to Stretch Your Highway Hi-ghway Dollar" is the title of a new bocklct being mailed to local city and county officials. of-ficials. The publication is being distributed by the Utah Chapter of the Associated Associ-ated General Contractors. According to information published by the Utah State H'ghway Department, Grand County will receive $173,970.85 ;:n road funds this year. In addition, cities in the county coun-ty will receive $27,276.87: of this amount $27,119.48 will go to Moab. Those monies include in-clude the B & C road funds derived from license plates, federal-aid, and the Collector Collect-or Road Funds whose source is the new additional one cent gas tax. Tho booklet pointed out that .the construction industry indus-try would like to serve the local governments. They have offered a cost - free means of getting their road projects advertised for bid. The publication says competitive com-petitive bidding will provide Tcr the lowest possible price when road work is constructed construct-ed by the contract method. It also nodes, "Tax-paying contractors in the state await the opportunity to bid on public works." The AGC points out that the new Collector Road System Sys-tem regulations calls for the use of plans, specifications and estimates for all construction. con-struction. The booklet notes the advantages ad-vantages of the contract system, including: establishment establish-ment of definite costs. . sets firm completion dates; insures in-sures quality workmanship and materials; safeguards public funds; supports free enterprise; and assures lowest low-est possible cost. |
