Show News Eilc Eox 6310 Lincoln, Neb. 63506 21st Friendship Cruise this weekend, water ideal s High water and warm weather should make for ideal conditions for this year's Friendship Cruise, sponsored spon-sored by the Canyon Country River Marathon Association. The 196 mile run down the Green River and up the Colorado River covers some of Utah's most spectacular spec-tacular canyon country. This 21st running of the Friendship Cruise will start from Green River this Saturday. Registration for the event will be open until noon Saturday at the Green River Fire Station. The entry fee is $40. This fee will provide for any assistance that may be necessary during the trip. Transportation for cars and trailers from Green River to Moab will be provided, along with guard service for the parked rigs. Transportation Trans-portation will be provided, along with guard service for the parked rigs. Transportation will be available avail-able to any stranded boaters at Mineral Canyon. The National Park Service will be providing assistance within the boundaries of Canyon-lands Canyon-lands National Park, and the Sheriff's Sher-iff's Posse will also be on call for emergancies. Radio communications communica-tions will be established at selected locations along the route, including Green River, Mineral Canyon, Anderson And-erson Bottom, Dead Horse Point, and MGM Wells. Gas will be available at Mineral Canyon and MGM Wells. Rest Stops will be located at Mineral Canyon, Anderson Ander-son Bottom, Lathrop Canyon and MGM Wells. The organizers recommend that each boat have at least two experienced experi-enced river pilots. Though the rivers are relatively calm, river running is physically demanding and greater safety can be assured if the pilots are relieved regularly. Boaters should also include gas cans, life jackets, a first aid kit, insect repellant, mooring line, extra ex-tra clothes, and sleeping bags. A steak fry and dance will be part of the Saturday night festivi ties at Anderson Bottom, alon, ; with breakfast Sunday morning The Moab Jaycees will provide th meals. Tickets for the meals mus be purchased before the Cruise The money from the meals will b used for Moab community activi ties. The Jaycees stated that the; expect to serve upwards of 50 hungry river runners. |
