Show Dear Editor: We have been to Las Vegas several times and each time went to two or three shows. The cost was $7 each, or $14 a couple. This Friday night. May 3rd. we went to Grand county high school and saw the same quality entertainment entertain-ment for $1 each or $2 a couple. As a matter of fact. I enjoyed en-joyed "Oklahoma" more than some of the shows we saw in Las Vegas, and none of them were better than the production produc-tion these high school students put on. Each one. it seemed, was just suited to his or her role, and you couldn't ask for mors talent it had costumes, scenery, and the works. Yet they said for the first two performances there was hardly anyone there, the 3rd night. Friday, there was standing room only, and that is the way it should have been every night. I don't know when I've en- joved anything so much and those who didn't go really missed something. Besides that, these young adults need our support and encouragement. Mr. Bowthorpe and Mrs. Knutson put in hours of time and talent to bring out the very best in these students, when they can take such an interest, be so proud and put hours of work into it, I imagine im-agine it is pretty discouraging discourag-ing when we as parents, teachers, tea-chers, relatives, friends and neighbors don't. If anyone should, we should at least appreciate ap-preciate their efforts enough to go see the kids perform. We go. pay two or three times this price to see entertainment enter-tainment brought in from out of town and more than once I've heard people say they were really dissatisfied. These kids are guaranteed entertainment enter-tainment from beginning to end. Come on. citizens of Moab. what's the matter with you? You've got it right in your own back yard and don't even know it. Let's ALL come out and support it. "Seventeen" is going to be their next production. I don't know the date, but watch for it. Give yourself a real treat. Don't miss it. Sincerely, Mrs. Nadine Stephens Dear Editor: Sines I am no longer working work-ing for the Police Department (I objected to some of Mayor Bunce's policies and became a trouble-maker) I have decided de-cided to present some of the problems that threaten the safety of our community and the corruption of our youth. Many people have objected to the teen-agers drinking beer at the street dances and questioned the absence of the city police. The police officers were ordered to stay away from the dances by Mayor Bunce. WHY? Beer parties along the river are almost a weekly event. According to one city officer that reported one such party to Sheriff Bowman and offered offer-ed his assistance the Sheriff replied that he was sleepy and w;as going home. Is this in line with his oath of office? of-fice? The Mayor, City Council and County Commissioners have done nothing to correct these weaknesses. Does this represent repre-sent our tax dollars at work ($1225.00 per month to the Mayor and City Council members). mem-bers). Mayor Bunce's only answer to my complaints was to 'get along' with the county. I be lieve in cooperation, but, not to the extent of someone risking risk-ing his life needlessly. If our forefathers had followed this 'get along' policy this country would still belong to England, and I suppose that Mayor Bunce would be collecting taxes from his fellow colonists. colon-ists. Get behind your local Safety Council. That's about all you have left! Bill Foote |
