Show Meet the Business People Who Serve Yotil Featuring This Weak: UTAH MOTEL CANYONLANDS CAFE "More and hettur highways into the Canyonlands," is what Cliff Carter and Harold Har-old Bowen consider a factor in increasing tourist visitations visita-tions to Moan. Our featured merchant this week is in the business of catering to area visitors Cliff Carter and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bowen are the owners of the Utah Motel located on the corner of Main and Center in downtown down-town Moab. The 28 unit motel has just received a complete remodel ing which included walnut paneling in every room, new Sighting and bathroom fixtures, fix-tures, recarpeting, seamless plastic floors and walls in the bathrooms and aluminum awnings in the front of the motel and over the walks. The Utah Motel 'originated by Cliff's mother, Mrs. Virginia Vir-ginia Carter who had the motel built in 1940. Cliff took over in 1946 after serving serv-ing for his country and much has been added since. Cliff and his wife Gloria have four boys and one girl, all attending Moab schools. "We appreciate th pat-. ronage at the cafe from the local people," Cliff said. The Canyonlands Cafe was built in 1964 in the location of a former service station. The Bowens purchased half interest in theh motel and cafe operation from Cliff's brother, Jay. The Bowens came to Moab from Borger, Texas 15 years ago. Harold Bowen was a carpenter car-penter and did so well in Moab that they stayed. Bowen and Carter enjoy getting out into the surrounding surround-ing country in their spare time, Carter enjoying fishing and Bowen doing a little prospecting. When asked what he thought would bring in mors tourists, Bowen stated that more advertising would be one of the keys. Better roads would also provide a greater great-er invitation to the visitors, he said. "We ought to concentrate on the retired couples," he continued.
