U S. S Geological Survey headed by H. H R. R Joesting which was working in the area They contacted Arches Superintendent Bates Wilson who in turn notified the Sheriffs of of- fice lice A search was Immediately begun on Tuesday continuing Wednesday morning until the body of the missing man was discovered discovered dis dis- covered In the early afternoon John Abby and his brother Edward Ed ward Abbey both seasonal rangers rangers rangers rang rang- ers for the national park service began searching the rim of Taylor Tay Tay- lor br canyon Wednesday morning They discovered tracks as they worked back In the direction of the parked car which whitt led Jed to the discovery of the body John Abbey then contact contacted d Sheriff Stocks who radioed to Moab requesting an ambulance County Coroner Bert Dalton and Roy Turner left immediately for the scene upon receipt of the Sheriffs message Search party members carried the body one one half half mile to the awaiting I ambulance The search party was joined I Wednesday by Lewis Lewis' s son sonI n nI I of the missing man his wife and Ben Bagley Dagley Midvale attorney and Mrs Bagley Th They y were were with the search party when the body was discovered The deceased was in Utah as a govern government nent Inspector at a frozen I foods plant in Provo and had Iud come comeI cometo cometo I to Moab to make photographs He had a lot of camera equipment I with him and was known to be bean bean I an accomplished amateur photo photo- grapher Members of the search party Included Sheriff John Stocks Deputy Deputy Deputy Dep Dep- uty Wesley Barton Darton Bates Dates Wilson Arches Superintendent the two Abbey brothers Alan Wilson Harold Barton Stocks all of Moab Mr and Mrs Lewis Kjar and Mr and Mrs Ben Bag Bag- ley According to John Abbey Mr Kjar was at Natural Bridges national national na monument Friday taking I pictures He was later reported in Blanding at a service station Deputy Wes Barton Darton reported that he had seen the missing man Saturday Saturday Saturday Sat Sat- returning from points Up lip I the Colorado river from Moab The car was first seen by the Geological Survey party Sunday Sundar and they notified Moab authorities author author- I lUes earlY Tuesday earl Tuesday morning spurring spur ring the two-day two search Mr Kjar had one canteen of water with him but ironically he left It In his car Also In the car was camera equipment The body was brought to Moab Wednesday afternoon No plans for removal of the remains had been announced Thursday morn mom ing |
