R King of Price who owns acreage bordering bordering bordering bord bord- bordI I ering the river The river which rages with what up to this time has been an destructive destructive des des- force torce during the spring run-off run last year claimed ap approximately approximately ap- ap p. p proximately feet of land In Inthe inthe I the Kings King's I Bend area It is estimated estimated est est- that over a thousand feet have become river silt during during dur dur- I dur-I ing the past few years or approximately approximately ap ap- ap I proximately 20 acres of land In the past only temporary measures have been used wed to help control the river such as placing tag log sandbags along the bank dragging and piling trees nl along ng the bank top and sides elder and even dumping old cars and useless farm rann Implements into the river to lo stay Its inroads The present permanent proJect project project pro pro- was first thought of ot by a Colorado resident who presented the plan tb to the Green River I Chamber of Commerce n Recognizing og its Its Its' Dick I Gardner C of C t t manager Immediately Im hn I mediately got busy and as a re rev result I cult sult the commissioners of both bothI Emery and Grand counties a ap appropriated appropriated I propria ted money for tor the project pro pro- I J ct t and the State Road Commission Commission Com I mission provided equipment since roads were vero involved I Bull Buli dozers were vere used to slope the bank of the river to a 8 3 to 1 slant forty five feet root in width This was graded and covered cov ered eyed with baled hay which was In turn covered with 12 gauge stock wire firmly staked down Much of the labor was donated by farmers and townspeople The I baled hay was given for the project pro pro- I feet with the wire and cat work being the main expense items An estimated 1000 man hours I were donated by the people The project was accomplished under the supervision of ot Frank Moss of or the Green River Canal temps comp any any Grand county count borders the river on the east eMt side and for lor many yc years rs the river was the dividing line between Grand and Emery Counties at this point The wanderings wanderings wan wan- of ot the river however have been such that land belonging belong ing to Grand county now lies lieson lieson lieson on the west side of the riv river r rand and a considerable amount of this land has been washed away Farmers of the area feel ready for the spring l high waters with the anticipation that this year and in till the future the river can cah roll high but do no damage due to the operative co efforts of all ali those individuals and agencies ag endes who joined in this river control project |
