Show COlORADO I RIVER GRAZING i ASSOCIATION ORGANIZED I IJ J APPLICATION FILED FOR DISTRICT EMBRACING ALL OF GRAND COUNTY AND NORTHERN PART OF SAN JUAN OfFICERS J NAMED rY The organization of the Colorado River Grazing association was vas per per- perfected perfected at a meeting of stockmen of Grand and San Juan counties at a meeting held at Moab Thursday night OffICers of the association were elected and an application was flIed filed with the secretary of the interior for the cre- cre creation creation of the Colorado River Grazing district to embrace all of Grand county and the northern part of San SanJuan SanJuan Juan county The officers as elected are as fol- fol follows follows lows President W D Hammond vice president J M secre- secre secretary secretary tary Carroll J Meador additional di- di directors directors rectors George W Johnson Alvie Holyoak G 0 Patterson and Jolly Jonn A Johnston The boundaries of the proposed dis- dis district as requested by the association are as follows All AU ot of Grand county and the follow follow- following following ing portion of San Juan county Be- Be Beginning Beginning ginning at a point on the Colorado river where the line diViding Grand and San Juan counties crosses said river running thence west to Green river thence southerly along said river to the junction of the Green and Colorado Colorado rivers thence up the Colo- Colo Colorado Colorado andI I rado river to the mouth of Indian I creek thence up Indian creek to the I mouth of Hart draw thence up Hart Bart draw to South and East canyon rims thence east following the rim to the Colorado line thence north to the La LaSal LaSal Sal National forest line thence west est westerly erly and northerly along said forest boundary to the line dividing Grand and San Juan counties Thursday s meeting was held pur- pur pursuant pursuant to adjournment from July 30 There w as a large attendance of stock stock- stockmen stockmen men the county cOurt room being fill- fill filled ed to its capacity Don Taylor president president dent of the Grand Grazing assocIation caned called the m mi eting to order with W WR WR R McConkie acting as secretary W D Hammond who tho had attended a meeting of San Juan stockmen held the preceding day at MontIcello re- re reported reported ported that the San Juan Interests had voted against the proposal to fonn one large district to comprISe the two counties He stated that the idea was wase e expressed pressed at the Monticello meeting that San Juan county had ample range but that Gland county was short on feed and for thIs reason reacon Grand county Wished a part of San SanJuan SanJuan Juan After a general discussion it was de- de decided decided to proceed wIth organIzing the assocIation and designating the boun- boun boundaries boundaries daries of the proposed grazing district A motion was unanimously carried in- in the officers to petition for forthe forthe the creation of a distrIct within the boundaries as outlined above The election of officers of the as- as assocIation association was the next order ordel of business busi- busi business ness W D Hammond was unanimously unanimously elected presIdent and took the chair G 0 Patterson J M and Don Taylor were v ere nominated for vIce presIdent Mr beIng elected The names of W R MCConkle McConkie and Carroll J Meador were presented for secretary Mr Meador being declared elected Under the constitution and by laws adopted the three officers elected were made officio ex-officio members of the board of directors Since it was provided that this board should be composed of seven men it was ne necessary essary to elect four additional di- di directors directors rectors The names of 14 stockmen were presented as follows H G Green Earl Dalton John A Johnston A T Wilkinson M L Burdick G O 0 Patterson Carlos Wilcox A M Rob Rob- Robertson Robertson ertson George White Alvie HOlyoak Don Taylor 0 H Newell and James Somerville The following were declared de- de declared elected George W Johnson Alvie Holyoak G 0 Patterson and John A Johnston It was called to the attention or of orthe the meeting that a further conference of stockmen was to be held at Glen Glen- Glenwood Glenwood wood Springs Colo on August 6 to discuss the Taylor grazing bill with officials ot of the department of the In- In InterIor interior The association voted to send two ho delegates to the Glenwood Springs meeting and to pay their actual ex- ex expenses expenses President W D Hammond and Director G 0 Patterson were unanImously elected to attend thE conference Constitution and laws by-laws of the Color Colorado do Rl Riser er Grazing association have been adopted and to date 88 have joined the organization tIOn by signing the papers and paying an entrance fee of 2 |
