Show cottings jottings Jot tings from a prodigal son dear bish this wandering around from coal camp to coal camp hunting for work I 1 hunting for grub hunting for anything you can run on to to make an honest dollar Is no picnic of a job but its all in the game of life and we must meet it as it comes to us day after day happening into a small town library the other day I 1 chanced to pick up a magazine bristling with some things j that made me sit up and take notice let me give you a few of the things I 1 was most interested in and that struck a sympathetic note as to the truth of one article I 1 read A judge was being interviewed this Is what he said i in my childhood my parents drummed a few things into me and my brothers and sisters these were absolute honesty and not kleing when the truth Is always best religion also was taught the growing children in the old days business assumed that a young man who had been reared in a respectable home possessed the virtues of truth and honesty in his makeup his domestic background was his guarantee when he went out into the world to find a job but today an office will not consider a man unless he brings with him not only a letter of introduce alon but also four or five recommends alons setting forth in black and white that he Is of good character the above Is as true as daylight A young roan today must be fortified with testimonials as to character honesty and trustfulness for the job he may seek in the business world I 1 have met people who could lie faster than a horse could run you could read it in their face while they talked we have plenty of them all around us some people lie and those to whom they are talking know they are ileine while they pour out the words dishonesty today Is so flagrant that one does not know whom he can trust the state has had dishonest employees the counties and the cities have had them especially salt lake and the end Is not yet even pugh could steal from under the nose of his superior and get by with it going some smarter than the whole gang up at the state capitol then I 1 salt lake city had a dose it has not forgotten the judge goes on and says we are losing religion poise and appreciation of simple natural things greed for 1 money greed tor amusements nd yet people think that these will bring them happiness I 1 wish I 1 could gire you a lot more that this wise old judge has known and experienced in his day and time even if I 1 did would it be read and taken to heart until the I 1 next time goodbye good bye I 1 YOU KNOW ME |
