Show another great county fair staged at moab exhibits were of unusual excellence Excel lenc three days of races and rodeo events provided rare entertainment for crowds another grand county fair has passed into history and once more moab has lived up to its reputation of staging one of the greatest county expositions of the western country the attendance was considerably greater than bad been expected in view of the financial depression and the crowds bere rere grien a program of entertainment that has never been surpassed here visitors returned to their homes loud in their praise of the festival and the manner in which it was conducted especially fine was the display of agricultural horticultural domestic art and educational exhibits at the star hall the exhibits were perhaps not so great in numbers as at previous fairs but the quality has never been surpassed according to the judges C H madsen county agricultural agent of carbon county who served as chief judge stated that the display of farm products fruits canned vegetables and school exhibits were marvelous and surpassed anything he had ever seen at a county fair without a doubt he said the display would have attracted a great deal of attention and would leave won the lions share of awards lad it been sent to the state fair H 3 evans had general charge of the exhibit hall and was ably assisted by the following department supervisors D S L mccorkle educational mrs W D hammond domestic science isis H W balsley domestic arts mrs earl somerville flowers prank peterson horticulture and bert allred agriculture ri A three day program of races and rodeo events was conducted at the fair grounds and the attendance at all of the programs was good probably the largest string of running horses seen at a moab fair were entered in the races the rodeo events were under the direction of don weimer of cisco aho brought a string of bucking horses with reputations gained at other fairs the riding events were exciting many of the performers being thrown the roping contests and wild horse races were exciting numbers music at the fair grounds was fur by the dr U S lucas family land who call themselves the clown band from navajo land the members are dr lucas and children harry bobbie buile lillian and six year old kuby tex clayton of mt pleasant utah and his trick mule crowned clowned for the fair mrs reva grey of norwood colo and miss heba perry of pendleton oregon gave exhibitions of fancy riding that were among the best features of the fair following Is a resume of the sports program for the three days free picture alms were given at the ides theater thursday and friday nights and on all three nights of the fair dances at the goodmen woodmen hall proved popular attractions music was furnished by walker s moab orchestra which made a hit with the dance lovers on saturday night one of the big features of the fair was an allstar all star wrestling card at the goodmen woodmen hall opening bout was a finish match athe between roughhouse rough house ferguson and dean denton light heavyweights and kicking exhibition this was a slugging hibi tion which kept the crowd in an denton won the second and uproar third falls and was awarded the bout hy shaman and jim pappas two of the leading welterweights welter weights of the world put on a speedy 30 minute bout which was full of excitement each man took a fall and they went to the time limit for the third the bout being decided a draw what was supposed to be the main event of the evening was a finish bout between ira dem of salt lake and george parker of oklahoma heavyweights heavy weights parker spent most of his time quarreling with referee and crowd instead of paying attention to his opponent dern took two falls in short order winning the last fall with an uppercut to the jaw the bout but altogether was a disappointment the card was the most exciting ever seen at moab |
