Show UTAH CROP PROSPECTS CHANGE DURING MONTH crop prospects have undergone some changes during the past month the wheat crop more than half of which has been harvested Is now forecast at bushels or somewhat more than the forecast of a month ago the production in 1927 was bushels there vere a few important localities last year which suffered severe injury or last years crop would have probably exceeded bushels oats and barley are now forecast at bushels or about 1 per cent greater than the forecast of july 1 and only a shade higher than the prodoc ton of 1927 which was estimated at bushels the production of oats is estimated at bushels this year compared with in 1927 and the present barley cron is forecast at 1486 bushels compared with 1 a year ago the increase being due chiefly to more acres being planted this year than last the hay crop however shows a prospect on august 1 for a total pro unction for the season of tons compared with the prospects of july 1 of tons this reduction in prospects is due to the dry weather in july this total includes the alfalfa wild hay and all other hay their total last year was tons which itself was comparatively small owing to the reduced tonnage of the first cutting of alfalfa of the crop of 1927 fruit crop prospects generally improved during july the production may be rated as good but approximately one fifth less than a full crop this applies to the principal varieties of tree fruits the commercial apple production Is now forecast at bushels compared with the low figure of bushels in 1927 the peach crop Is now forecast at bushels compared with in 1927 pears are forecast at 86 bushels this year compared with in 1927 and the cherry crop which is practically all harvested has yielded mora than was expected and Is now estimated at tons compared with tons in 1927 |
