Show SHAME ON SUCH A SON he was born and reared in provo and lived there until a few years ago when he moved to a town in one of the northern counties of utah with his wife and friends he returned to the city of his birth to celebrate the glorious fourth they had a good time so good in fact that they decided to remain over the fifth and celebrate some more to a boyhood companion whom he met on the street he confided what a wonderful time he and his friends had enjoyed how much money they had spent how much liquor they had consumed and how drunk they got on the national holiday its really wonderful that people can have a good time and enjoy themselves out in the utah county infirmary the poorhouse is a heartbroken heart broken old man he used to be one of the active men in provo helped to build the city and raised a large family one by one the children left home the wife died and the father was alone in the old family home with its many memories of joy and sorrow when he became too feeble to handle himself he was taken to the home for the aged where he is given good care and treatment I 1 but the old mans heart is broken and large tears well up in his eyes as he tells you no I 1 seen any of my boys since I 1 came out here they have entirely forgotten me and oh how I 1 loved those boys I 1 think they would ever forsake me like they have done yes the old man is the father of the man who came back to provo to celebrate the fourth of july the man who has money to spend for intoxicating drinks but has neither time nor money for the father who cared for him in his infancy and youth provo herald |
