Show MORE CASING TO BE HUH IN BOM KNOLL WELL operations have been suspended at the boulder knoll well eight miles southeast of monticello pending the arrival of more 6 inch casing the feet of open hole will be linden earned and the casing will be set on bottom to shut out the water which has risen some feet in the hole since striking the big flow of wet gas three weeks ago considerable doubt is entertained as to whether or not the drill has as yet entered the sands and it is believed the water is coming from a stratum above the sands for this reason it was deemed advisable not to take the risk of mining the well by drilling further walh a wet hole more casing and tools are being obtained at aztec N M and operations should be under way within a week the well Is still making a strong flow of gas A 2 inch pipe has been coni necked to the control head and attached to a standpipe stand pipe running 40 feet into the air the escaping gas from the i pipe has been ignited and bums day I 1 and night the burning torch being visible for many miles at night the importance of the strike of wet gas at boulder knoll is recognized by oilmen throughout the country and a big play will doubtless soon get under way in that section the following article from the durango colo herald gives the views of james L wade well known locally and who has gained considerable prominence in the southwestern colo rado and new mexico areas as a tacal geologist I 1 J L wade of durango one of the competent geologists in the coun try who wrote a report on the boulder knoll territory which is now being j tested in the dove creek country not only sees great possibilities in this well but has an abiding faith in the inside of the inner san juan basin being developed into a commercial oil field of great importance I 1 mr wade said the finding of gas in the boulder knoll well opens up the possibility of an immense development of oil in conglomerate old er formations in montezuma and dolores counties colorado and san juan I 1 county utah mr wade wrote a geological report on the boulder knoll structure and A L kroeger civil and mining engineer made a detailed contour of the structure in his report mr wade called attention to the boundary butte well on the navajo reservation in southeast san juan county utah in which the dr illers procured commercial of oil in the that test is being drilled by the continental oil co under contract with the midwest refining company mr wade said they have cased off this oil and are now drilling in the pennsylvanian Pennsyl at about 4 feet the midwest people he said in their mc elmo test drilled in 1921 also found interesting if not in tact at this same horizon mr wade is confident that future drill lne of dove creek and other anticlines anti clines will result in commercial production in one or more of the counties mentioned above |
