Show PROPOSES CHANGE IN STATE constitution representative charles redd of la sal has introduced a resolution in the lower house of the legislature proposing to amend the constitution of the state of utah which would change sections 2 and 3 of article 3 the resolution ol ution if adopted would submit the question to a vote of the people of the state at the next election the change in the constitution would give the legislature power to impose taxes on in conuis which taxes may be graduated with progressive and reasonable exemptions and a credit allowed for property taxes paid within the year it also empowers the leg to provide by law for the di i vision of all property into classes and subclasses sub classes for the purposes of taxation and to determine what class or sub class of property shall be subject to taxation and the relative degree in which the several classes or subclasses sub classes shall be taxed and what classes or subclasses sub classes cf property if any shall be exempt from taxation taxes would be made uniform upon all property of the same class or subclasses sub classes within the respective taxing divisions and would be levied and collected for public purposes only the object of the bill it is understood is to increase the amount of state aid to the sparsely populated school districts of the state i A |
