Show LOCAL FOOTBALL TEAM MEETS DECISIVE BUT WATERLOO AT HANDS OF UTAH COUNTY CHAMPS crippled by the joss of several first string players who were knocked out in the early minutes of the game and handicapped by having to play on a grass field the grand county high school football warriors champions of region no 5 were overwhelmed friday at provo when they met the provo high school team winners of region no 3 in the semifinal semi final game ot the state championship tournament the final score was 39 0 in favor of provo although the local boys were decisively beaten they went down fighting and the game was a much harder victory tor broo than the score would indicate although the moab grid have no excuses to offer and frankly admit that the best team won those who witnessed the game say the result might have been different and certainly provo s score would have been been much smaller but for several misfortunes that befell the in the first place the local squad made a hard trip of some miles over muddy raids which undoubtedly took the edge off the men due to wet grounds it was necessary to play on the B Y U sod gridiron the maib boys accustomed to playing on a sandy field slipped plenty aplenty a on the slick brass and for this reason the line did not play its usual game to add to these handicaps two halfbacks and both ends were knocked out in the first period and the major part of the contest was waged with a crippled lineup had the game been played at moab the local team without doubt would have held the provo eleven to a very low score and quite possibly would have won the game the provo team Is easily the outstanding eleven of the cental part of the state and will probably go into the final pame with west high of salt lake for the state championship every member of the provo squid Is fast and they have a high powered offensive that Is hard to stop in the game with moab provo scored six touchdowns two of these were earned from scrimmage while four came as the result of intercepted passes fumbles or blocked punts at in the game the moab baw threatened the provo goal but could not put the pill over for a score in the latter part of the second quarter fullback was the outstanding star of the game carrying athe bulk of moab s offensive he made four long runs to give moab its only downs in the game and also was strong on defense moab guard played a fine game on the line the contest was hard fought and at times rough vicious tackling being done on both sides several players on each team were injured moab lost two backfield men and two ends by this route and walker suffered an injury to his shoulder early in the fray that interfered with his passing and punting provo lost captain fotheringham early in the game the lineup and summary moab
