Show THOUSANDS OF FISH WERE KILLED BY MUDDY WATER the many floods from desert washes which poured into the colorado nver last week during the stormy period caused a heavy loss of fish wednesday according to II 11 P miller C A leasure and F L fix of the midwest exploration codih pany who were returning to moab by boat from the frank shafer no 1 well down the river they report that thousands of fish of all sizes were seen floating down the stream many of them dead white salmon suckers and carp to be the most susceptible to the silt laden water and some channel catfish were also seen the water was extremely muddy and was filled with trash and debris the result of the desert floods many fish which had sought retreat under the willows and in small holes along the river bank were trapped there when the river fell and the air swarmed with ravens and buzzards which were feeding upon the fish experienced state that it is unusual for the water of the colorado river to become so boiled roiled that the fish common to the stream are killed but that this sometimes happens while last weeks flood undoubtedly killed many fish it is evident that all were not exterminated as persons fishing in the river this week since the flood report having had fair luck |
