Show HIGH COST OF TRUANCY C A robertson president of the county board education read botoe interesting figures pertaining to tT iancy in the mohib schools at the teachers association meeting held friday night the figures which were compiled by principal J D thompson of the grand county high school showed that the loss of time by absence froan school during the past eight months was 1068 days in the senior high and in the junior high school or a total of 1423 days lost through truancy sir thompsons Thomp sons estimate of the cost of operating the high school per day per pupil was 53 2 10 cents which would show a direct loss to the school district of on account of absence of pupils from their classes a iorge part of which could have been avoided an active parent teach ers association mr robertson argued should be able to effect great good in ridding the schools of truancy one of the worst evils with which the school authorities have to contend another interesting matter brought out at the meeting friday night was the relatively small amount of money that has been and is being expended in overhead costs in the operation of grand county schools the total bonded debt of the grand county schools is only the lowest with one exception in the entire state no indebtedness has been contracted in the grand county district since 1017 practically all of the school funds are paid out for maintenance our per capita expenditures buildings and equipment b t K less than in t of the ll 11 PJ districts of the state |
