Show FAILS ON WILL TRY AGAIN efforts to shut off the water formation overlying the oil sand in the shafer no 1 well by the use of boid which have been in progress the past week have so far met with failure yesterday the well was opened up with the intention of drilling in after the mud had been allowed to set for 48 hours but hailing disclosed the fact that the water was leaking under the casing this necessitated another attempt at mh idding the 6 mch casing is being pulled and will be run again with a benson sidewall packer mud will again be pumped in around the casing and after it has been allowed to set for a day another attempt at drilling in will be made probably saturday or sunday the first mudding operation was made without the advantage of having a packer on the bottom of the casing as the first packer which arrived was deemed impractical the 64 mch casing was run to bottom monday and barrels of mud were pumped in on the second attempt a benson packer will be used and probably a greater quantity of mud will be forced in oil men are hopeful that this time the desired shutoff shut off of water can be accomplished L L bechtel assistant superintendent of the midwest is still at the avell directing operations and has by no means given up hopes of getting the overlying water flow under control so that the producing stratum can be opened up the situation is a usual occurrence in oil well drilling and several weeks may et elapse before the well can be placed on production if the mudding operations prove a failure it is probable that the clinch will be pulled and cement will again be pumped around the 84 inch in a further attempt to seal the leak around the bottom of this string operations on the no 2 well on the shafer dome have proceeded slowly but steadily he past week the well was last at a depth of feet the same massive limestone formation of almost hardness which was encountered in the no 1 well is delaying progress in no 2 frequent dressing of tools is necessary and within a few days an additional crew of tool dressers will be put on duty to assist the drilling crew this will expedite operations A 15 mch hole is still being made |
