Show FAVOR BY WAY OF ENTER IN routine routing of the pike pikes peak high a way or midland trail from cisco to westwater town own and thence up the colorado river and bitter creek can yon 0 to the colorado state line Is 1 1 favored anred by county commissioner commissioners max B taylor and ind W D hammond ammond ll who with engineer II 11 J nielsen NI eleen made a trip over the proposed route friday at sagers th they wire wore joined by state road agent chacks stew art and from cisco former corn mlis ioner J G 6 mcbride accompanied the officers on their inspection trip the route as above outlined hai has al ready been designated by the berls lature ai as the state road to the colo rado line and the commissioners be fore attempting to approve it decided to RO go over the two routes and ice see for thein selNes which appeared the mot most practical the party went to he state line over the westwater Wes road and returned over the present midland trail highway along the route of the old railroad gade grade commissioners taylor aad hd llam hart mond are of tho the opinion that the westwater Vet water route ic Is by far the most practical will cost less to construct and the maintenance expense will be much less than on the old road wad A car can now negotiate the road with th led less difficulty than ii is encountered on the upper D pe road due to the many bad cro crossings sIgs on the latter big highway hwAy the people of westwater have done con sid Id erable work on the road up bitter creek canyon and as a result the lower route is even now the best road i to the state line the route leaves cisco and travels due east to west westa I 1 safer just below the railroad grade I 1 prom from westwater it continues on up the river canyon for about half a mile crosses bitter creek on a 1 ai a rock floor and proceeds up bitter creek canyon to a Pric junction tion with the present road near the colorado state freant fine ine ultimately the plan will be to continue the road due easterly from tom bitter creek bower joining the present road at mack black the lower route is estimated to be about eight miles shorter than the old Bild midland land train from cisco to mack black more moreover over it passes pastes through a it gravelly see t on and ana will eliminate te the desert stretch between cisco and mack the road from green river lo 10 the colorado line by way of thompson cisco and n westwater has already been designated a as a secondary fed eral aid project and the plan under consideration is to construct it by units which would make possible the completion of the project in three or four years in the event this plan is earned out the section from cisco to the state line will doubtless be con trusted truc ted first the new routing will necessitate the construction of about six ix miles of new road by colorado to connect with the utah highway but it f believed the colorado road authorities will readily see the su peri onty of the route under consid ration and will agree to meet uit the state line i engineer nielsen expressed the opinion after the trip that the west water road cost less to construct and is in even ever way superior to the old midland trail provided colorado will meet it at the state line |
