I THEATRE REVIEWS I The le Music Musio Master aster asterIs Is Great Success at Wilkes 1 es Theatre earl e eThe The Music I Master Herr Herron von on Earwig Barwig that splendid and pathetic character is masterfully interpreted inter inter- Interpreted interpreted inter Inter- by Ben Erway at the Wilkes this week Mr Erway Erway's s power of I char characterization has been ben rev revealed to Salt Lake drama lovers before but in n this ro role h he Is superb The story of ot the Music Master I Is poignant with deep emo emotion on Once a famous a-famous mu musician In L the impoverished and proud old master maHer Is seen giving music lessons lessons les les- sons to poor children nad playing In fn a dime freak museum The purpose which brought hini to this country with Its poverty and heartache still light his old eyes ees with hope when he speaks s to Jenny the boarding house slave of his wife and bab baby who were stolen from him by a false tabe friend for whom he has been searching Marching fruitlessly all his life Greatly loved by his friends Pinac and their existence possesses a grandeur or I spirit in spite of ot its penury With this background the play develops with depth and power which keep the audience in n laughs and tears throughout The discovery of his daughter and his great self renunciation are marvelously mar depicted and to the last scene his tragedy seems t to endure The old master preparing to return to Leipsic whimsically admitting that his ticket is first class steerage is too much for Cor the audience and tears flow freely but the climax with one of its touches of perfect comedy brings brings' I Iback back the smiles and the play closes with wholehearted applause rockIng rockIng rocking rock- rock Ing the theatre Congratulations are being heaped upon Mr Erway Other members of the cast including Mr Ferdinand Ferdinand Ferdinand Ferdi Ferdi- nand the director also are receiving great approbation from admiring and delighted patrons Miss Gladys George is adorable as Helen Stanton Herr Herron von on Barwig's Earwigs daughter Miss JIgs Lucile Holder Is seen as aR Jenny Ray Clifford as her lover Miss Fanchon Everhart Everhart Ev Ev- erhart as Miss Houston the landlady landlady landlady land land- lady Arthur Loft as Pinac Cyril Delevanti as Fico and Noel oel Leslie as Mr Stanton New ew members of or orthe the large cast seen in this play also deserve credit for Cor their excellent acting acting- |
