Show L fy It is only six eix years since th the Daughters of ot the Utah Pioneers Pioneer moved their headquarters from th thod the theod theod od Deseret museum in the Vermont Vermon building to the capitol bull building and so rapid has been the collection o ot of otrell rell relics s that a V l large rge space has been given the society in which to dIsplay display dIs- dIs dis- dis play their theil collection One of ot the most of th the relics shown in n tho capitol was th the Pioneer Trail Trall It was Installed in room and the story of the long l long ng trek across the plains was portrayed portrayed portrayed por por- in the installation of th the wagons oxen houses etc It was wa made by the children in mIniature to which was added a great wall wal map map of the route taken by the pioneers plon pio plo n ers Wonderful lessons did this picture tell It was a story without words but was placed so that I Iwas It was a splendid object lesson Th The room where this was displayed wa was the Mecca of man many and for tor four fou years it was visited Then demand for office room was made and th the The Pioneer Trail TrailS was taken up officers of ot the Daughters of ot the Utah Pioneers expect to bo be able soon eoon to Install it It when it will be become become become be- be come a part of tho the tho permanent ex exhibit ex- ex hibit There are still remaining Inthe Inthe in inthe the church museum about relics that are to be bo moved to the capitol soon It Is recalled that on July 24 1907 the Sons and Daughters o othe of the Utah Pioneers were organized for the purpose of celebrating the pioneers pioneers' first entrance into the Salt Lake valley on July 24 1847 Senator Senator Senator Sena Sena- tor Reed Smoot was tho the first presIdent president president dent of the organization Since 1915 the burden and the pleasure o of t honoring the founders of the grea great commonwealth have fallen tallen to the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers That they have cared f for r them goes without saying i I That the deep gratitude of the Daughters of ot the Utah Pioneers might be made manifest In a substantial substantial substantial sub sub- way a banquet was given to the donors of the many relics and in honor lionor of ot the survivors of ot the early at the Hotel Utah on July 24 24 1921 This Thia banquet was paid for by the organization the theL I 1 L L. D D. S S. S church and the city commission corn com mission That wa was only three years com j ago and yet most persons have forgotten forgotten forgotten for for- gotten it A year later in 1922 carne came the diamond jubilee diamOnd Jubilee a three- three day celebration in honor of ot the pioneers pio plo One of the members of the exec executive committee in charge of ot the celebration is the present governor governor governor gover gover- nor of Utah who was not too busy to meet with committees and to honor Utah's pioneers V And how that celebration was enJoyed enjoyed enjoyed en- en Joyed by the old timers timers' All who said that It H t was Just the best celebration that was ever put over over The Daughters were in charge and the Sons Joined In am and the result was the raising of ot almost to bring the aged people to Salt Lake to house them in the Hotel Utah for tor three days and to meet all expenses A balance 01 of was presented the Daughters of ot the Utah Pione Pioneers rs to aid In the celebration which was to be had hac during the succeeding year I I- I |
