I By Airship I Q o By DR FRANK CRANE The flight of the huge gas galS bag from Germany German to the United States recently was significant In the era of ot transportation Dr Eckener who piloted the dirigible says that transoceanic travel from front Europe to the United St States tes by air Is Js a thing of the near future He lie says that this kind of f travel at first will be commercial com coin mercial devoted to transporting fast mall mail and freJ freight ht and later on passengers Transoceanic travel will vill develop faster than transcontinental because of ot the superior speed of the dirigible as opposed to the railway transportation tion and anU the surface ship Besides this bumpy air caused by heat rising from tho the earth is not present over the tho waters water e helium is better than explosive hydrogen such as was used in the Zeppelin The only trouble is that helium costs much more than hj hydrogen drogen I The airship will be more more popular with passenger traffic because its its its' gentle rolling motion does not I cause seasickness or airsickness It is always possible to avoid storm centers ac according according ac- ac I ac-I cording to Dr Eckener Crossing the Atlantic the dirigible was confronted by two storm centers one off ott Capo Cape Finisterre In Spain and one ono in the Azores The ship changed its course northward and went toward Newfoundland The greatest necessity is to replace hydrogen with helium and gasoline with some other fuel which is not so dangerous The transfer of this dirigible fr from m Germany t tp tc the United States ought to increase the good feeling toward Germany It is not so 00 easy to work up good feeling as it ita a s to work up hate but In time all hate must dio dlo and such exploits as communication between Germany and the United States by airship will be influential It is interesting to note in this connection that an an tn aircraft corporation has been med fox to use ships of f the 3 type for regular passenger service service ser eec vice throughout this country Europe and South America This wa was indicated in a speech by Major C.
