Show BJUA. FLASHES by Jim Abplanalp AMATEUR BASEBALL IN REVUE Let's take a gander back over the past baseball season and see just what the national pastime has done for Bingham. Early in the spring, urged by a constant clamor for revival of baseball, several officers and members of the BDAA contacted different leagues in hopes of entering a team from the Bingham community. commu-nity. Arrangements were made with the Salt Lake Amateur Federation Fed-eration to participate in their league, in the Bonneville division. divis-ion. The hopes of the BDAA was to create something worthwhile for the young fellows during a DorioH of irilpnpss hptwppn snhnnl seasons, as well as to bring back the baseball spirit. Community Cooperates Next, the BDAA contacted the Bingham high school authorities and district board members, and received their fullest cooperation in regards to use of the baseball field and facilities. Business men of Bingham eagerly took up the good work and contributed enough money to buy twenty-five twenty-five uniforms to start the team in first class condition. Several discussions developed on the choosing of an interested and suitable manager to handle the new Bingham baseball destinies. des-tinies. The man that nearly everyone ev-eryone thought of first, Les Sum-nicht, Sum-nicht, took over the reins and the boys could not have had a better one. As a starter, the BDAA entry was not expected to win too many games their initial year, but at least they were to be given giv-en a chance to play and develop. Prove Worth of Training As the season got underway, the boys working out for BDAA squad proved the worth of the right kind of training they had received during scheol and summer sum-mer supervised recreation. The boys had little trouble getting in shape, and started off like veterans vet-erans at the game. With their background of the best prep supervision, sup-ervision, and working Under an expert diamond general, the BDAA Amateurs walked through the season with unbelievably good results. After winning both halves of league play, making a clean sweep of the Salt Lake Round Robin tourney and copping cop-ping all games to win the state amateur title, the local boys brought happiness to the loyal diamond fans of Bingham. Record To Be Proud Of Bingham parents and fans can well be proud of the boys' diamond dia-mond , exploits, but something even finer to remember is the manner in which these boys deported de-ported themselves. No drinking or smoking nor abusive language was seen or heard on this ball club during the entire season. Manager Sumnicht, who played a lot of baseball and could hold up his end in pretty fast company claimed he received the greatest thrill of his diamond career, working with these lads this summer. What It Means for the Future Perhaps the boys who participated partici-pated in this program will be heading for various careers in the future. Some may play pro ball, or develop the talents they have sbown, or enter the business world. Whatever they decide, the past years' good clean activity will surely not have been harmful harm-ful to them. All of these boys will or have already returned to high school or college, and next season a new crop of prepsters will be eagerly trying to earn a spot on the BDAA Amateurs. ALLEY ANGLES Travelers Drop Series As Gemmell Club Routs Paul's Service Crew Last Thursday the BDAA Travelers in the Salt Lake Major league ran up against last year's champs, Mullett - Kelly, and couldn't win nary a point.
