Show Spotlighting UTAH I Utah Leads Western Stales In Coke Output The United States production j of coke for the year 1947 was, 73.445.850 tons worth $776,405,520. This production was a 20 per cent increase over the previous year. Utah leads the western states with a production of 1,043,465 tons. Colorado produced 871,186 tons; California, 332,244 tons and Texas, 263,006 tons, according to figures just released by the U. S. Bureau of Mines. Assessed Valuation of Property in Utah Increases The State Tax Commission has just released preliminary figures which show that the assessed valuation of property in the state of Utah will reach $769,831,109 for 1948, This figure is 12.95 per cent higher than the same figure for the year 1947. Utah Buying Rate. Population Changes Shown in National Survey Just Released In an annual survey made by Sales Management magazine and analyzed by Standard Insurance company, brings out the following follow-ing interesting points about Utah: The buying income of the average av-erage Utah family is placed at $4527 per family compared with the national average of $4308 per family. The average Utah family spent $3207 for retail purchases compared with the national average av-erage of $2955. In Salt Lake City the buying income was $6236 (45 per cent above national average). Retail sales in Salt Lake City totaled $220,626,000 which was 42.7 per cent of all the retail sales in the state of Utah. Salt Lake City residents re-sidents spent $46,023,000 for food; $52,704,000 on general merchandise; mer-chandise; and $8,108,000 at drug stores. The net cash farm income per farm in Utah amounted to $3593 which is also above the national average of $3160 per farm for the nation. Utah was among the ten states showing the highest population gain since 1940. California was Lrst with a gain of 41.8 per cent; Oregon was second with 41.5 per cent; Utah's gain was 15.7 per cent. The density of population per square mile in the nation was given as 43.8 Vi persons per square mile. Utah has 8 persons per square mile; California, 63; Oregon, Ore-gon, 16; Washington, 33; Idaho, 6; New York, 296; Massachusetts, 621; Rhode Island, 722. |
