c f I Wilson Sends Memorial Day DayS S Script to Vets i May 28 WASHINGTON Woodrow Wilson broke V V Friday the silence he has maintained since he re retired retired re- re tired tred from the White House on March 4 4 In a Memorial day letter tetter to the editor of the Stars and Stripes which was published In that sol aol soldier dier periodical he declared that the American people shall not be beable beable beable able to enjoy the full pride of the days day's recollections until we have made sure that the duties that I grew out of the war have been fulfilled to the utmost I Are Arc we sure he asked If we weare weare weare are not shall we not soon take steps to do whatever has been am omitted 1 I The full text of the former presidents president's letter follows I Memorial day has always been one of our most solemn and thoughtful anniversaries when we we recalled great memories and dedicated dedi ourselves again to the maintenance maintenance main main- and purification of the I nation but this tIIs year it has an added and tremendous significance because the memories and sacrifices sacrifices sacrifices of the great World war are arenow arenow arenow now among the most stimulating of the recollections of the day We celebrate the immortal achievements of the men who died i in France on the field and in the trenches far away from home in order that both our own people and the peoples across the seas seu might be delivered from the ugliest peril of all history It is our privilege not only to indulge a high hiSh and solemn pride and grief for the heroes of that great struggle struggle struggle gle but also to rededicate ourselves ourselves our our- selves solves to the achievement of the great objects for which that war was fought We shall not b bI be happy we shall not be able to enjoy the full pride of the days day's I recollections until we have made mOlde sure that the duties that grew out of the war have been fulfilled to the utmost Are we sure If we are not shall we not soon take steps to todo do clo whatever has been een omitted Cordially yours WOODROW WILSON
