Defense Corps Tried Trial by Fire U UNFORTUNATE as the Auerbach department department department depart depart- ment store fire was on all aU counts it did serve one good purpose in giving members of Salt Lake City's citizens' citizens defense corps an opportunity opportunity op op- to show what they could do in an emergency And their showing was not bad A number of members of the defense corps who had received training in fire fighting helped r gular city firemen in combating the blaze Ordinarily civilians would be more of ofa a hindrance than a help to firemen in such sucha a case But that wasn't true with these men because they knew what to do as a result of their training They were afterward thanked for their services by Fire Chief LaVere M M. Hanson and by the Auerbach company Wed We'd like to add our thanks too too not not just for their services in fighting the Auerbach fire but for this evidence that they are on the job properly trained and ready to meet some far more serious serious serious se se- se- se rious fire emergency in the city
