B Record Monday announced reorganization reorganization reorganization of the entire uniformed police personnel and demotion of four detectives detectives' to that division as he turned over the police department to its new chief Colonel William C C. C Webb The changes had nothing to do with the current police scandal it was emphasized and end were made by Inspector Record as his last act as acting chief of police The shifts were literally dumped into the lap lapof lapof lapof of Chief Webb as he assumed his new duties Inspector Record said the changes were made purely in the interest of department efficiency I Changes Outlined They included 1 Combining the traffic squad with beat patrolmen so that all aU uniformed uniformed uniformed uni uni- formed officers will act both as beat patrolmen and traffic patrol patrol- men 2 Transfer of four detectives from the plainclothes squad to the uniformed squads Sergeant Gold Golden n Haight formerly former former- ly in the traffic d department was named sergeant in charge of the uniformed night shift He will act also as desk sergeant from 11 p. p m. m to 7 a. a m. m Duty sergeant for the month of March will be Sergeant L. L F. F Bastow former traffic statistician In charge of the squad office Detective Captain E. E A. G Johnson Johnson Johnson John John- son and Don Vinson Mr Lee was appointed March 1 I 1935 others on January 1 1936 The changes were revealed when the police duty roster for March was posted Patrolmen Lee and Gifford were assigned to duty on the police prowl cars and Patrolmen Johnson and Vinson were assigned to beats The change does not effect their i f civil civil service status as officers merely decreases their salary Civil service rules contain no official provision provision provision pro pro- vision for the rank of detective I Webb was appointed during a brief city commission meeting meeting a continuance of last Thursdays Thursday's re recessed recessed recessed re- re regular meeting Chief Webb Inspector O. Wallace first thanked Inspector Record for the splendid way he handled the duties of acting chief then introduced a motion for appointment of Colonel Webb effective at once Chief Takes Takes Takes' Oath The motion carried unanimously and within a few minutes the new chief had signed official bond of and been sworn in by City Recorder Ethel Macdonald Maedonald Commissioner George D. D Keyser then told Inspector Record that he Commissioner Keyser wanted to commend you for the way you handled handled handled han han- the job I hope that when you get a little older some future commission will say you are the man for the job of chief of police said Commissioner Keyser Peyser Commissioners William Murdoch P.
