Show S Ii- Ii I Doldrums r I- I 4 By Dy JOHN BLAKE It It has bas been raining steadily for three days Sitting beside me on the veranda are four young men and two old ones who are quite unhappy about it The young men want to play golf got The old men want to row out in the lake and try to catch trout For Tor a time they played bridge two of them taking turns at watching while the others played I Now they are sitting staring out at the streaming streaming stream stream- ing s skies les and cursing the tho weather They hate each other and the world No Not a a. civil word has been spoken by any of them fOr cr more than two hours Inside In the reading room of ot the hotel are two midd aged ged men who are better golfers and more fishermen than ny of the complaining and unhappy people on the veranda They are placidly reading books they brought along with them One of ot them has a Shakespeare another an excellent biography of ot one of ot the great men of ot the world These men are weather proof They Thy have enough philosophy to know that there must be rainy days and enough intelligence i to employ these rainy days in doing what they would not be likely to do on bright days cape espe daIly In vacation time The dOl doldrums rums through which the people outside ar are traveling do not affect them in n the least And they will look back pleasantly on their vacation if It it continues to 10 rain to the end eni of ot it without any deep regrets for it it will have brought them some profit It Is easy to be depressed by bad weather especially especially espe espe- daIly 1 If one has not the good sense to do in bid ball weather either many things that tha are hard to do in good weather wather One Ont of ot these Is reflecting Another is re reading Nature has his her work to do and does It in her own w way y and nd in her own time Inasmuch as nature Is the boss the human S beings on this earth either must adjust themselves to her way of or doing things or spend a treat great deal L Lof of their time in unhappiness It is good to be outdoors to breathe fresh tresh air t to o look at fields and lakes and mountains and admire the works of ot the Creator But If one i dt-i this continually he would have l little ittle time to store away away away- knowledge and antl t tion ion and these arc essentials of ot happiness aR as well nell as to success success S Adaptability to weather conditions is as aa necessary necessary sary as adaptability to business conditions and tt tl to s brought about by human Ignorance and stupidity And And it is mor more conducive to peace peace of ot mind for we can do our little share toward improving im- im im improving m- m proving the man-made man conditions while no act of ot ours can change or modify the weather On the tho days that the Dutch are said said- sald- sald to bang hang themselves one can be contented and happy and profitably employed if It he tries Anti And even ven if It the trying Is a little difficult to weather-sensitive weather people it Is worth the effort We get all sorts of ot weather in a lifetime And the roughest of It ought not to paralyze us into Inaction mac Inac tion and bitterness of spirit Copyright CopyrightS 1925 by the Be Bell 1 Syndicate Inc |
