Show I I I Curb Automobile u on o i a Thieves ieves I I 1 NE HUNDRED AND TWENTY VENTY automobiles were stolen in I I O ONE auto auto- automobiles Salt Lake City during the month of March These auto auto- 1 1 t mobiles represented a total value of at least S f t Most of the mach machines inos were stolen for joyride purposes The They y were taken used until wrecked or the gasoline exhausted and then I abandoned Police records show th the great great- majority of thefts to have bee been committed by boys under 18 13 years of age Their youth I sa saves saves s' s them from the penitentiary and they apparently Pa pay r little attention to the moderate punishment inflicted by the juvenile court The he situation however has become becom so serious that drastic action must b be taken The Automobile association and the insurance insurance insurance ance companies are powerless unless they have the full cooperation of the municipal and county authorities During the coming spring and summer months when autos autos' will will-be in more general l use than they have during the winter we I can expect the number of thefts to increase unless such drastic I action is now taken as will serve as an effective deterrent It is isI up to the authorities to determine the proper method of meeting I the situation and the thousands of automobile owners will rejoice if it be met promptly and effectively |
