This was definitely decided on at a meeting of represent Mtives of furniture dealers held last night. The question of closing early Saturday afternoons or of giving the employees of the firms a week's holiday holi-day on full pay has been under discussion. According to the statement mada this afternoon the matter was submitted to the employees and a majority of them expressed the desire for the half Saturday holiday Instead of the week holiday. Another matter that ws briefly con-tide con-tide red at the meeting last night, but upon which no action was taken, was the question of Installment. Home of the dealers claim that the present method of 10 per cent down and 10 per cent a month Is not sufficient and that the dealers should get together on a different Installment plan. It Is claimed that In many instances the furniture dealer sells a lot of furniture on which ha never real ises the full amount. It Is the opinion of a number of the local dealers that the present plan will be so changed that a deposit of 30 per cent and then J per cent a month will be demanded on all time sales. It was ' stated this afternoon that every firm In the xlty had been losers under- Iha prea-t , ent Installment plsn and that a change would have to come. It Is the Intention of the local dealers to so arrange It that they may combine on car lots. While this wilt mean no reduction In the freight rates it will mean the arrival of the goods in this city in much less time then under the present system- When asked this afternoon If there was any Intention of the part of the .local dealers to get together and ralfe prices on all kinds of furniture Mr. Freed said tha nothing of that kind had aver been suggested. |
