Show EARLY BUILDER OF J SAL? LAKE DIES John Greene, ' a pioneer contractor and carpenter, died thia morning at his home, 133 North State street, in his seventy-ninth year. He had been 111 about fonr weeks,though he retired from work several rears ago. because of poor health. Five children eurvive him, , hisvwifs having died last April. They are O. . Greene. (1. E. Mr. Greene came to 8nlt" Lake in 1878 and entered actively into tbe building business, in which he contin- , oed for about -thirty years, building a large number of houses in all parts of tbe ritv. lie built the first building that was erected north of the engle gate, which is now 76 North Htate street; also tbe third one in that district, dis-trict, at 1214 North mate afreet, where be moved with his family in 1484. next door to the present residence of Hie family. This place was on the hank of City creek and at a point opoite the old water mill, the present site of the Lafayette, school and tbe general site of the first camp of the original . pioneers Mr. Greene was also' a cabinet maker of considers ble ability and many of his pieces of handsome hand made furniture furni-ture arc found in the better, older homes of the city. He did a great deal of work for Brfgham Voting, including much of the interior woodwork of the Gardo .house. The funeral services, whirh will be private, will be' held at the residence at 9 o clock Buudav morning. |
