Show SCHOOL TEACHERS AT POLICE STATION ' A number of teachers in the grammar gram-mar grades of the city schools met at the office of Chief of Police S. M. Barlow Bar-low yesterday afternoon to inspect the city jail and the methods adopted by the" department in the administration of police affairs. The inspection was in line with the teachers' course of study of civil government, conducted by C X. Child, grammar school supervisor. super-visor. In answer to questions by the teachers, teach-ers, Chief Harlow said that the lesi-deoce lesi-deoce district should be patrolled at least once or twice each dav. and that though he bad asked the eity council for the appointment of thirty patrolmen patrol-men for this duty, he had been given the power to appoint only two. He said that there is not another city in the United States that is attempting to cope with the criminal element with so small a police department. The department de-partment ia credited with nearly twice the arrests per member of any other city in the country. |
