Show SLAYER FREED BY v '-UNWRITTEN LAW" ALLENTOWN, Pa., Jan. 25. A Carbon Car-bon county jury has exonerated William Pitten of Beaver Meadow, of a charge of murder in the first degree, for killing Harry 8tewart. The affair is in many respects identical with the Harry Thaw case, and the defense was based on the "unwritten law." Pitten charged that Stewart, who was a boarder at his hotel, was too attentive at-tentive to his wife and ordered him "way, with a warning never to return. When 8tewsrt came back Pitten picked up a revolver, which was lying in plain view back of the bar, and shot him through the heart. Then he surrendered, confessing thst he had bought the pistol pis-tol to kill Stewart should he return. Mutus friends testified that Stewart had bragged that he would succeed in separating Mrs. Pitten from her husband, hus-band, and Pitten testified the boasts bsd reached his ears. Judge Horace Hsvdt, who presided, complimented the jurvmen, saying they had displayed wise judgment, and good sense. The prisoner was released. Hi neighbors met him with s band on his return home and gave a reception in his honor. |
