What is in manv respects the most informing in-forming and significant paper issued by any life insursnre company during the present year has just arreared over the signitnre of John R. liegeman, President Presi-dent of the Metropolitan Life. While the communication is addressed to the Company's agents.-and is in the nature of a review and announcement covering cover-ing matter chiefly interesting to the field force, it deserves attentive read-inb read-inb by everv one who holds or intends to secure a Tife insurance policy. It appears that the Metropolitan Life has for some time been engaged in the preparation of new "mortality tables'' based ujion its oWn experience. Rv comparison com-parison of given periods in recent years with corresponding periods in former vears, back to lKOO, the fact is established estab-lished that among the Company's pol icy holders there has been sufhrient improvement im-provement in mortality (this is, a smaller average of deaths at various ages) to warrant certain changes affecting af-fecting future premiums and benefits, all directly in the interest of those insured in-sured in the ( ompany. With characteristic charac-teristic thoroughness and frankness these results and changes are specifiied in minute detail, not put forth as estimates esti-mates or vague promises. Their significance to the insuring public pub-lic is a reduction in the price of insurance insur-ance in the Industrial Heparf metit, and through a readjustment of rater, of com missions to agents, a reduction of premiums pre-miums iharged in the Ordinary Department. Depart-ment. Concerning the policies to he issued in 1907 this information is given: ''Our new policies will be found most attractive in form and even more attractive at-tractive in substance. They contain all of the advantages and concessions which we can afford to give and which the public have the right to expect. The surrender values will be foutul to be generous and take the optional forms of extended insurance, paid-up insurance insur-ance ami cash. They are the standard forms of the New York Department, the work of experts which has legislative legisla-tive approval. They are as plain to the understanding as they can be made. We have discontinued manv plans as unnecessary. We shall issue Ordinary Life. Limited Payment. Endowment and Term plans, and we have applied for permission and hope to issue in ad dition three plans which the public have stamped with their approval -namely, the Optional Life or Kndow-nipnt, Kndow-nipnt, under a new name, the Modified Kndowmenr with Life Option; the Guaranteed Diidend, also under a new and more descriptive name, the Guar anteed Increased Kndow men'; ar.d the Reduced Premium Life under its new name. Life With Reduced Premium, after L'o vears. One noteworthy passage relates !o the Companv's liberal pol.cv of distri bu'jiig dividend' and benefits not con tcmplated m its contracts with policyholders. policy-holders. President Hcgeman asks his agents to not that ''This year the ( ompanv has been d i.sbii rsi ng the enor n.ous sum of about two millions of dollar dol-lar in yoluntarv dividends upon non participating Industrial policies, bringing bring-ing 'he tolal aiiioun of un promised di vidend in twelve years to about ten millions of do!;r ;,, Industrial policy holders in the torrn of dividends on pre iniiims, dividends on death dairr and increases of bench's upon existing poll rie ' ' He adds; ' We r,a e been enabled to accomplish tips work aP 'hee y . ars bv fitrhdv improvements in business methods, l y steadv extensions of hu-i necs territory, bv steady additions to in snrance in tone, by watchfulness in writing and taking ca-e of business, re suiting in a d creasing dea'h rate, de creasing lap e rate and decreasing ex pet.se rate.
