Show j . . .A Natural Course ..... j IN SUMMARILY dismissing Its lecturer the other day for alleged participation In religious re-ligious ceremonies at the municipal tourist park, the Salt Lake chamber of commerc took a logical and natural course. It would seem that the chamber , was more or less a victim of circumstances In this unfortunate incident, having entrusted a member of one of its committees with the important work . of directing civic lectures at the tourist camp- - ing grounds. ,. The club Is a nonsectarian organization Z '. and declines to mix religion with business. Naturally the membership was much con--; cerned when ft heard that the lecturer paid Z, by the club was participating In religious meetings being conducted by one faith at the camping grounds. As can readily be seen, .this was an unfortunate situation for the Z chamber, since it gave the religious meeting r the stamp of official authority from the chamber of commerce. If Indeed It did not ; make it a part of the club program. "T The Salt Lake" chamber of commerce, being representative, of all faiths as embodied .- in religious liberty, could ill afford to have !. this impression continue. In terminating the services of the lecturer the club did what I! it could to correct the situation. At the !' same time It should rebuke the member en-,trusted en-,trusted with the work for his failure to see that the lectures were pr&perly launched. |
