Nobody wants the "smelters, according accord-ing to the discussion befort the House yesterday, when that body passed a bill allowing the smelters the right of eminent emi-nent domain. Under the bill, the smelters smel-ters are given the right to condemn land within a radius or four miles when 75 per cent of the land thereabouts had been previously obtained. The bill, which is Senate" bill No. 65, was passed. Upon motion of Representative Kuch-ler, Kuch-ler, the number of inhabitants of a community in which smelters could not be located was lowered from '75,000 to 30,000. On this question Speaker Joseph and Kuchler indulged in a warm debate. McRae, on behalf of the farmers, made a strong argument against the smelters, and Jenson spoke in favor of the bill. |
