Show CALIFORNIA STOCK NOW THREATENED WITH STARVATION Owners Appeal for Opening Open-ing of Forest Reserves for Grazing. STOCKTON, Cel., April 12. Tbon-sands Tbon-sands of head of rattle and sheep are threatened by starvation in the valley regions of central California, according to stock raisers, and the secretary of agriculture in Waehington has directed a representative of the forestry service to investigate for the purpose of determining deter-mining whether to grant an appeal that forest reserves be opened for paiing j purposes. A message received today by San Joaquin county's representative in the state legislature from Congressman John E. Baker, aajs that the secretary of agriculture has promised to do all 1 possible to relieve conditions. The message says the forestry represents tlve is on the way here to confer witb the chief forester of this state. The state legislature adopted recently a joint resolution appealing to the government gov-ernment to permit an increase in th number of animals to be fed on the re serves.
