Show T Strike of Mates, Pilots Halts ! All U. S. Shipping to Alaska SEATTLE, Feb. 3 (UP) A strike of mates and pilots for higher ; wages and better working condition today halted all American shipping to Alaska. Bteamahtp lines paid off sailors, who voted aympathy with the Masters, Mas-ters, Mates and Pilots' union. North Coast, which had been posted to sail at 10 a. m., was ths first ship affected by the, tie-up, which went into effect twoj houra before sailing time.
